MCIC Marquette is a NICA Michigan mountain bike program in the Upper Peninsula. Like most NICA teams, it runs on volunteer coaches, parents who do a lot of driving, and athletes who would rather be on the trail than in a group chat. Roughly 60 contacts (riders, guardians, and coaches) need the same information at the same time, and the information changes with the weather.
The program came to RallyText during the beta as the founding test team, and RallyText's founder is one of its coaches: a Level 3 NICA coach who had been running the team from a personal cell. Before RallyText, a practice cancellation meant separate texts from several coaches' personal phones, and some families still showed up at the trailhead. There was no record of who had been told what. The moment that made the gap obvious was a storm moving in while a coach was out on the trail getting the last riders to safety; every parent needed a "come now" message at the exact moment the coach could not stop to send it.
With RallyText, the whole team communicates through one dedicated team number. A coach types a message starting with ALL in the regular Messages app and every family receives it from the team number, not from whoever happened to be holding a phone. Families reply ABSENT when a rider cannot make it and the attendance list builds itself before practice starts. The season schedule is loaded once, so reminders go out automatically before each ride and race.
Two things mattered specifically because this is a youth program. The roster came in straight from NICA PitZone, the league's registration system, with riders, guardians, and emergency contacts already linked; nobody retyped a spreadsheet. And every direct message from a coach to a rider under 18 automatically copies the rider's parent or guardian, while a rider who texts a coach directly gets a second coach looped in, which is what NICA's two-adult communication rule asks for. The coaches did not have to remember it, and the dashboard log shows who was copied on what.
The team number also outlasts any one coach. When a volunteer rotates off, the roster, the number families have saved, and the message history stay with the program instead of leaving in someone's pocket.
What MCIC coaches and families say
Your team could be here
This page only carries stories we have permission to tell, with the team named and the words theirs. If your program uses RallyText and you are willing to share how, email support@rallytext.app. We will draft it with you, send it back for approval, and publish nothing you have not signed off on.
Share your storyHow teams typically use RallyText
These are the day-to-day patterns from the kinds of organizations RallyText is built for. None of them is attributed to a named customer; each one is drawn from the product itself and the scenario pages linked below.
Youth sports: the cancellation that has to land
A coach texts "ALL practice canceled, lightning" to the team number from the field. Every family gets it as a plain SMS within seconds. Families text ABSENT for a sick kid; the dashboard marks it. A coach's direct message to an athlete copies the athlete's guardian automatically, and an athlete's text to a coach notifies a second coach.
Churches: a service time change on Friday night
A pastor sends one text to the congregation instead of hoping an email gets opened by Sunday. Ministries (youth group, choir, volunteers) each have their own group and keyword, so the right people hear about the right thing, and members join by texting a word to the church number.
Small businesses: filling a shift by 6am
A manager broadcasts a coverage callout to the people who can actually work it. Replies arrive privately in the dashboard, not in a thread the whole staff sees, and acknowledgments are tracked so the manager knows who has seen it.
Nonprofits: volunteer shifts and event-day changes
An event moves indoors, or a Saturday shift needs two more people. One text reaches every volunteer on the roster, on whatever phone they have, with no app to install.
Leagues and schools: many teams, one director
A league director or athletic director opens a free organization account, every team runs on its own number and dashboard, and the invite link applies the league discount (standard 10%) to each team's renewal automatically.
Coaches who never open the dashboard
Many leaders only ever use keywords from their own phone: ALL to broadcast, ABSENT reports in, a staff-only keyword for the coaching group, URGENT for a family emergency. The full list fits on a card.
